Dominican’s North Atlantic humpback whales travel 2,500 to 5,000 Km journey from North pole (Iceland, Greenland, Canada, and North America) to the Caribbean every year during their annual Winter migration.

The first established whale observation was in 1985 from the town of Santa Barbara de Samaná. Around 1000 – 1500 humpback whales visit Samaná bay between mid-December and late March each year to mate, give birth, and nurse their young.
